39 In the Desert
“39 In the Desert” is a film shot on location in Palm Springs California. It deals with a gay man struggling to find his way forward on the eve of his thirty-ninth brithday.
The film deals with ideas of identity and duality. We wanted Palm Springs to become a landscape of the mind.
We shot on the beautifully rehoused set of Minolta ROKKOR lenses at Old Fast Glass. Wide open, these lenses provide a fantastical quality to their imaging while remaining surprisingly sharp.
We knew adding contrast would be difficult wide open, so we opted to use color to provide contrast to the frame. Inspired by Marcell Rév and his work on “Euphoria”, this created a heightened reality for our story to live in.
“39 In the Desert” is currently in post production with a planned festival run in 2023.
